WHY IS STYLING AND IS A STYLIST IMPORTANT?

A fashion stylist’s fundamental errand is assembling outfits and pieces of clothing that coordinate well with the story and idea behind your project. The stylists are mostly associated with stores and brands. A stylist’s role while working on a project is multi-fold. Firstly, they conceptualize outfits for the shoot by picking them from brands that fit the brief. Secondly, they go out to purchase the said products for the shoot. Thirdly, they dress the models in a composed and innovative manner. Fourthly, and most important of them all, they guarantee that all the items received adequate recognition by the end of the day and returned safely. Stylist’s work with you and advise on various factors ranging from how to shoot the story to how the story should be introduced when ready for launch. Another important point to keep in mind is that the stylists are fashion photographer’s partners/buddies, and you would do well to get to know a couple of them on the off chance that you can!

HOW DOES STYLING COMPLEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY?

On occasion, fashion stylists are disregarded or even looked down on the grounds that “they simply select garments,” yet I can guarantee you that is the farthest thing from reality. A stylist is the one that readies the setting of the scene, so if something doesn’t look right, they are the ones who advise the photographer, model, and other individuals working on the project to ensure that everything looks great. With regards to capturing a styled shoot, the photographer is the one picturing the scene and the subject. It is the stylist’s responsibility to ensure that the photographer has a delightful, business-like scenario, which implies that they have to help with representing the model(s) the way the photographer likes, along with setting all the foundational subtleties in place.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO STYLING?

While studying at NIFT, Hyderabad, I realised that something I’ve been loving and doing so effortlessly since I was young could be made into a career. So when I read about it and explored deeper, I knew styling is something I wanted to do. The more I partnered with shoots as a model, photographer, and stylist; it became clearer that this is what I wish to do ahead. With everyday self-styling during college to getting my first internship with Ami Patel and then with Nitasha Gaurav, I’ve explored enough to learn the basics of the industry and implement them in my professional career now. Creating art is what I aim to do, and with style, I promise you it’ll be a masterpiece.

HOW IS A STYLING PORTFOLIO MADE?

Your portfolio, a basic component of a stylist’s resume, ought to mirror your energy for style and your ability for it. If your routine job involves working with private customers, your portfolio must accentuate your innovativeness with the sort of apparel troupes individuals wear daily. On the off chance that you need to work with business outlets like magazines, your portfolio must demonstrate your capacity to make outwardly fascinating stories that can sell the stock. Whatever your inclination is, your portfolio is a portrayal of your expert self. It would be best if you made it work for you.
